Catrin Lewis Defis is a Welsh speaking, award-winning drama producer with over 30 years experience working in both scripted HETV and Independent Film. Starting her career as an AD, she worked her way up the ranks before becoming a very experienced Line Producer when she refined her scheduling and budgeting skills and mastered the art of putting the money on the screen.
Catrin has worked on many drama series including BROADCHURCH written by Chris Chibnall, staring Olivia Coleman and David Tennant for ITV, Russell T Davies' DR WHO and TORCHWOOD for BBC, and Oliver Goldsticks’ THE COLLECTION for BBC Studios/Amazon UK/PBS-Masterpiece. Catrin has produced two series of bilingual TV crime drama BANG – winner of the BAFTA Cymru award for Best TV Drama. Bang also won best drama series at the Celtic Film Festival and Bronze Medal at the New York Festival with writer Roger Williams also being nominated for a Writers' Guild Award. Catrin produced the first series of THE PACT a 6-part drama written by Pete McTighe for Little Door/BBC/Lionsgate, and HOLLINGTON DRIVE a 4-part drama for West Road Pictures/ITV/All3Media written by award winning writer Sophie Petzal staring Anna Maxwell Martin. Films for television include A POET IN NEW YORK with Tom Hollander, directed by Aisling Walsh and BAFTA Cymru award winning SHIRLEY directed by Colin Teague staring Ruth Negga. Feature films include BAFTA Cymru winning LAST SUMMER written and directed by Jon Jones and Craig Roberts’ ETERNAL BEAUTY staring Sally Hawkins and David Thewlis.
More recently, Catrin produced the 10-episode drama series THE WINTER KING for Bad Wolf, based on Bernard Cornwell’s trilogy The Warlord Chronicles, developed and written by Kate Brooke and Ed Whitmore, directed by Otto Bathurst and Farren Blackburn. This premiered on MGM+ in the United States and on ITVX in the UK.
Catrin is a founding member, trustee and treasurer of the Mark Milsome Foundation and sits on the BATFA Cymru Committee where she is Chair of their Learning, Inclusion and Talent Sub-Committee.
